10 Secrets of becoming a fashion icon in 50s
Becoming a fashion icon in 50s
Over the years, young people have always flooded the fashion industry, freely exhibiting their styles while older people are left with principles on how to dress in 50s. Lately, the vision of aging and fashion is changing, thanks to Prof. Lyn Slater, a 63-year-old mother and grandmother who is a sensational model on the internet now.
In her words at Washington post.com “They like the fact that I’m a professor, a PhD, two masters, and I’m a mother and I’m a grandmother, and yet I’m still doing this. And I’m not over the top. I’m still a woman who’s very much in the world, and although I’m pushing it I’m not inappropriate.”
In the United States, too, she said, “I think young people are exhausted of the way we talk about aging. They want to believe that they can keep becoming and reinventing throughout their entire life. They look at me and say, ‘You’re clearly saying, “I’m not 20 and I don’t want to be 20.” Whatever age you are, life is important to you and you have to make the most of it.”
So many women have drawn courage from:
Lyn Slater, Maye Musk, Lorna Brittain, Veronica Webb and Cecilia Chancellor who are fashion icons and still slaying the runway at 50s to conquer fear of self-expression.
Don’t try to look young; dress your age yet stylish
Have a role model from whom you create your styles
Strive to put your pieces together, it might just become a trend
Fancy up your shoe collections. If you are a fan of heels, square heels of about 2inches is cool. However, flats are recommended, for extra stability. Therefore, build a fun collection of flats to add interest and pop to classic looks
Add collar clothes to your wardrobe as they make one look smart and vibrant
Be self-aware and take time to cultivate calm confidence and that fashionistas are famous for
Flawless style doesn’t have to be flashy, edgy, or fussy. Sometimes the simplest looks are the chicest, it’s about the attitude
Wear the newest trends and keep them as simple as possible
Handbags are one of the easiest and most fun ways to perk up your wardrobe, look for structured styles with trendy details, like wood handles, woven sides, bright colors, or oversized hardware
Keep colour choices limited. A dark jacket with moderate structure, a denim pair of straight legged jeans, embellished neutral flat is a good example. Definitely not more than three colours in a single outfit. And, if you are doing three colors, the third color added should be the accent color, the other two basics that blend. Bright or lighter colours should be on your smallest body area, deep, receding colours, wear on larger areas.
