Dreadlocks as Contemporary Fashion
Dreadlocks which has become one of the most appreciated hair trends amongst Africans and African-hair-style lovers, is also one of the most unique and iconic hairstyles of all time as it is eye-catching, easy to maintain and full of attitude.
The hair that often resembles a lion’s mane, and affiliated with courage, strength, and power is not for the shy types, rather for the bold, stylish and fashionistas. It is formed from separating the hair as it begins to mat to create individual locks. Simply leave the hair to its own devices and once it starts to knot, pull the knotted, gnarly hair into individual sections.
Dreadlocks are often associated with many different meanings. In certain cultures, dreadlocks represent purity but in western side of Africa, Nigeria to be precise, it is rocked with pride as
any grown man wearing his hair in dreadlocks is bound to attract attention irrespective of the fact that the bias is deeply rooted in traditional and religious believes in the region.
The dreadlock style is also about connecting with African roots and letting your natural hair grow without interference. Dreads are freeform style, as it’s particularly important not to use any unnatural techniques to create them, however, there are unnatural ways to achieve locks like fake hair extensions.
All types of hair can form dreadlocks. It’s just a matter of how long it takes and how they are actually manipulated to encourage the locking process.
There are two main types of dreads;
The Long dreads which would put your patience to paly and its worth the wait after the dreads would have formed after many years.
The short dreads which is really cute and simple. It has the same sassy quality as a bob but with even more attitude. it is simple to care for and dreads of this length will form faster; in a year or less you should be proud of your short dreadlocks.
Dreadlocks started as a religious symbol in Rastafarianism but today it is a hair trend every fashionable person wants to try.
